Thoughts of a young public officer.
Working in the Public Service has taught me to relate to diverse views because
I work with various departments and agencies on projects. Galvanising people
around a common cause, such as exploring ways to create green spaces for leisure
and recreation, gives me much satisfaction. I have come to realise that I can’t
please everyone, but the various perspectives gleaned from multidisciplinary projects
help me be more patient and understanding. Working at NParks has helped
me recognise the importance of greenery to Singaporeans in all aspects of life, and
I have grown to appreciate what the government is doing to improve people’s quality
of life. It’s a job with people working hard to effect change. And that keeps me
going, because I am convinced that this cause I push for is truly meaningful and
beneficial to all.
